Once again our beloved Skipton has been voted as one of the happiest places to live in the UK in the just announced Rightmove Happy at Home Index – coming in a fabulous fourth after Hexham in Northumberland, Harrogate and Richmond Upon Thames.
The survey which interviewed over 22,000 people, asked them to rate their town on 12 happiness factors – with questions based around green space, community spirit, safety, sports and recreational opportunities, local services, amenities and cultural activities. Hardly surprising then we came out near the top!
Here are some of the Alexander’s team’s favourite Skipton happiness factors:
- Skipton Castle Woods – Just a five minute walk from Alexander’s you can discover the Woodland Trust’s Skipton Castle Woods, an ancient woodland habitat which offers a variety of inspirational walks and trails and the most fabulous views of Skipton Castle. Why not combine a bracing winter walk with one of Alexander’s delicious Breakfasty Brunches?! Remember dogs are welcome in the parlour and outside heated terraces.
- Skipton’s community spirit is immense – from the incredible charity fund raising Santa Fun Run which recently saw 2000 ‘Santas’ run through the town, to its beautiful Christmas lights which you can see on its award winning High Street right now – perfect for getting you in the Christmas mood! Pop in for a mulled wine or cider in our very own Winter Wonderland and Off Piste pop up restaurant at the same time… we’d love to see you.
- Skipton’s year round calendar of community and cultural events is out of this world. Keep your eyes peeled for news about the second Hinterlands Film Festival which we once again plan to be a part of and the town’s annual Waterway Festival – where you can sit back and watch the beautiful decorated barges from our heated terraces and Secret Garden.
- Sports and recreation opportunities are in abundant supply in Skipton. Two of our favourites –whom we have specifically chosen to support are; Skipton Tennis Club – the LTA’s club of the year and Skipton’s century old independent cinema, The Plaza which to this day shows all the premier releases.
